Mirka Klenova, new head of the AAU Student Council, says the group hopes to restore the council's former image by focusing on students' academic needs while continuing to organize social events.
She said the expanded focus comes in response to comments by some students that the previous council had spent too much time on parties and had devoted too little attention to more serious matters.
Areas in which the council hopes to work with school administrators include:
--Accreditation of the law faculty.
--Internships in the various faculties.
--Improved services to meet student needs for accommodations and visas.
-- Student evaluations of teachers.
At its first meeting the council approved the following:
--Girls' aerobics and volleyball activities, to be starting soon.
-- Sponsorship of a local orphanage in connection with Children's Day on June 1.
-- A mid-term party, which will be held jointly with New York University.
Klenova said the council will encourage students to participate in surveys designed to help council members meet the needs of the student body.
